Househunting - Part One

Today Naomi, Roger and I were taken to see three flats. Things started out a bit uncomfortably for me when the first flat - although close to the Rynek (square) - was two doors down from a sex shop, was "rustic" at best and there were rats around the garbage dumpster we would need to use. The property was three flights up and was ~ 900 square meters (don't even ask me to tell you how many square feet that would be)!!! I tried to hold out hope for the next flats and was beginning to have questions about what I was getting myself into. The next two flats were across from the Odra River and was near the Technological University. The first flat we saw in this area was gorgeous. It had an elevator and underground parking. It came fully furnished and was all modern. I would have killed for this flat; however, it will likely not be available in September so not even worth me taking pictures. The other flat near the river was about half a block away and had been fully renovated. It was also on the third floor without an elevator. The ceilings had to be at least 20 - 25' high and echoed because there was not furniture in it yet. The two bedrooms were both extremely large and both walked out onto a patio - one to the front of the property and one to the back. It felt like a school to me - all hallways and rooms with no open spaces. The bedrooms, living area and kitchen were all self-contained rooms. The floors were all parquet and overall it was very livable. I have renewed confidence we will find something but still have no idea when we can officially begin househunting in earnest so will have to remain optimistic we will find something comfortable and rat-free!!

I learned two new words today: Good bye and the more informal bye bye. I forgot "see you tomorrow" but will undoubtedly learn that one someday.

Craig and I will need to pack for our camping adventure this weekend. I hope you all were able to take a look at the site to see where we will be. I dread packing but we will be able to leave our excess luggage here at the Radisson so we won't be overburdened with luggage.

One last thing....dread locks are extremely common here. It makes my head itch just thinking about how long folks go without really washing the hair.

More later....
