Rainy days and Mondays

So where did we make a u-turn to the UK??? The weather has been more like London fog than the much preferred sunshine. It hasn't stopped me from walking the dog though! When I return home I can be a mailman - neither rain, nor snow nor dark of night!!!

Good news!!! We were able to fix my computer!!! I now have my own machine that is considerably faster than the old kitchen computer I was using in the interim. Many thanks to the 3M handy-man, Pavel, who purchased and installed the burned-out power source for me! I hope they are paying him what he is worth!

Couple of tid bits....

I was worried about how to pay bills here since I don't have a check book - and frankly shutter to think I would have to write out trzysta osiemdziesiat jeden (381). Can you believe the number of consonants??? I learned my bills can be paid directly at the Post Office. It is open 24 hours. I understand you present the bill, pay them in cash or by check (see above disclaimer), they stamp your receipt and the bill is paid!! That explains why the lines are always so long. But then again every line in Poland is long!

Today I learned it is against Polish law to have mismatched tires. If you happen to have a flat tire you must promptly get the tire repaired or face a ticket for mis-matched tires.

We had a 3M co-worker from home join us for dinner yesterday. Last week I picked up two jars of tomato sauce thinking I would make spaghetti someday. I found a very small jar of what I believed was tomato paste and brought that home as well. Since I wasn't positive the small jar was tomato paste I opted to purchase two more cans of tomato "koncentrat". When I shook the can it didn't sound like sauce so I figured it must be paste (I forgot to bring my dictionary with me)! Truth be told EVERY jar, can or container I bought was tomato paste!!! I still don't know what tomato sauce looks like. I had to do some improvising to get the sauce to taste right. I could now stock every food shelf from Wroclaw to Warsaw with tomato paste!

The outdoor eating areas around the main square are all coming down now. Yet another sign winter is on the way. I had to ask myself if they have a Polish law that tells them when the eating areas must be taken down. Isn't it just like Minnesota where the fish houses have to be off the lakes by the end of February???

I'm still trying to figure out why they have a silhouette of a cow on the "tow away" zone signs. I'll keep you posted!

Heading to bed....I've figured that out!
