Polish Lessons

It's official...I can now state my name, where I come from and how old I am. I can also tell folks where Craig works and we don't live in the country but in a large city. He drives a car made in America and we have a small dog. Hmmm...this is particularly helpful at the grocery store!!! Overall, the lessons are going well but can be very frustrating. I've recently learned Polish is the second hardest language in the world to learn. Talk about trying to teach an old dog new tricks!!!! The grammar is amazingly complex and, of course, there is the fact they pronounce each and every letter in each and every word...most of them consonants!!!!!

Sampling:

cz: ch as in chocolate
rz: s as in pleasure (throat vibrates)
sz: s as in pressure (no vibration)
ch: h as in hand
w: v as in very well not w
j: y as in yes
c: ts as in fits
r: rrrrrrrrrrroll the rrrrrrrrr
dzie: j as in jean
dz: ds as in beds

Not to mention all the letters with doo dads above or below them! And I thought the grammar was tough.....so what happens when you get a word that has the following combination?

szcz.....scroll down for the answer

sh*t (without the "i") and I'm not fooling. I was taught that trick yesterday!!!!

Today's adventure. Retrieve a package from a different post office. From what I can make out from the delivery notice I have to deal with customs. I hope I don't have to pay taxes on a book from Amazon!!!! I wonder if they will ask me where I live and how old I am? If so, I'm good to go.

Craig and I head for Krakow tomorrow. Will post pictures upon our return.

Iowa and St. Paul Grandmas....thanks for the birthday cards. Our mailbox was full today. A bank statement, a letter from the bank I couldn't read, the postal delivery notice and three birthday cards. It's either feast or famine at the Masmar mailbox!!!
