A Prague-less Weekend

With the Easter holiday and weather forecasts all throughout Europe calling for colder temperatures and rain we decided to stay in Wrocław for the long weekend. Since we've been putting off compiling our tax information it gave us something constructive to do. You can't begin to imagine how little there is to do in a relatively small apartment. I've got plenty of hobbies to give me busy but Craig kind of misses his power tools!!!

Speaking of Easter...everything shuts down through Monday!!! It is almost like a ghost town around here. Bear in mind Wrocław has approximately 100,000 university students - most of whom left for the extended holiday - so you can imagine how barren it seems around here. Most businesses shut down Saturday around 3:00 p.m. and remain closed until Tuesday. Even the large malls are closed.

Yesterday we took a walk to the Tumski to observe the blessing of the Easter baskets. We didn't get a close look at any basket but it was clear each basket contained a plant and food items to be blessed. The baskets were all covered with white linen. The lines for blessing and the confessional were quite long in the only church I felt comfortable enough walking into. At midnight church bells throughout Wrocław began tolling and continued ringing for one hour.

On a different note....I am no longer enthralled with the mistletoe trees! After doing some research I've discovered mistletoe is actually a tree parasite!! If enough mistletoe grows on any given tree it could result in death to the tree. How do you feel about kissing under the mistletoe now???? The magic is officially over for me!!!

Not much else going on. Craig told me "The Wizard of Oz" is on TV. Since I remain fearful of the movie (something must have bugged me about the wicked witch and the big, black birds when I was a kid) I opted to sit in the office and get caught up on the local news!!

Hope you all enjoyed your Easter!
