Week in Review

Where did the week go??? With Polish lessons three days a week and my International Friends gathering once per week I'm finding it hard to get the laundry done (wait...maybe that is only my excuse)!

We just got back from the Rynek. It is Busker Bus this weekend. Basically it is organized street performers taking center stage all weekend. It really makes for an entertaining afternoon. The performers are from all over the world. We watched a juggler from Germany. He was pretty amazing! The best part??? He spoke English!!! I wonder how much they make in an afternoon? He claims to be a full time street performer and has been for the past five years. I guess if things get really tough I can take to performing on the streets of Europe.

Craig and I had a great dinner with some friends from Canada and Australia this week. Definitely worth a return trip. It is called Splendido and can be found at the corner of ul. Bogusławskiego and ul. Swidnickiej for those of you travelling in the area! We are joining our American friends (from Arizona and South Dakota) this evening for drinks and dessert. It is nice to have found so many great people to keep our social skills in tact!

We ran into another friend today who actually saw my TV appearance. She told me it wasn't emmy-worthy! Got to love those blunt foreigners! My Polish voice was quite nice though! I checked out the local website to see if there was video, but no luck! Sorry to disappoint so many of you!

Craig and I had to have pictures taken for our Polish residence cards this week. Unlike traditional passport-type pictures these pictures were taken from the left side of our face with hair behind the ear and all jewelery removed. This requirement was a bit more problematic for me than for Craig. Once we get the residence card we can once again start the process of obtaining a work permit and Visa. The protocols have changed since we first moved here so have one or two more hoops to jump through.

On our return from our passport sitting we were wandering down the river path only to find a gathering of folks, along with police and ambulance. For those faint of heart you can stop reading now.

We watched the recovery of a dead man from the river. We must have gotten there pretty close to the actual recovery since we stood around as they set up the CSI: Wrocław tent, the divers put on their suits and police tape set around the perimeter. Interesting to note that gawking must be an international human attribute since we were joined by a pretty substantial crowd of on-lookers.

A little tough sleeping last night. The wind must have been blowing in just the right direction because we were able to hear a lot of last night's opera performance of Othello. Not knocking opera, but it did cause quite a stir amongst the neighborhood dogs since they seemed to have a need to bark in unison with the chorus. Of course, that set off Oliver. Two more performances and the show is over for this season. Since we will be here again next year we may have to up the caffeine for a day and try to actually take in a performance.

Nothing else new to report. Keep those cards and letters coming....and I do mean that! It does get a bit lonely over here at times!
