Bad, Bad Blogger

Time sure flies when you are having fun, huh??? Not sure where the time went but two weekends have passed since I last posted. One of the weekends was exceptionally busy while the most recent was very quiet - by design!

The weather has been dreary and colder. The temperatures wouldn't be so bad if the sun would come out. I believe I've seen the sun a total of ten minutes over the past week. I'm holding out for Indian Summer (I wonder if they have those in Poland)??? Both of us came down with colds and flu. Since Craig had the fever and I only suffered through incredible body aches I will give him the prize for feeling "rottenest" even though I probably whine louder! I think we are both tired of listening to each other cough. Fever, or no fever, Craig still manages to put in his 12+ hours every day at the plant. He even went in to work this past Saturday. When he got back we headed to the annual company picnic. The barbecue was fantastic but the weather definitely played a big factor in how long we stayed. Craig got roped into playing human foosball with some co-workers. I'll post pictures later. Craig started out playing goalie (like son like father, right)? It was entertaining for players and spectators alike. I was able to meet a lot of his co-workers and their families before we couldn't handle the chill any longer. We spent the remainder of the evening watching "Schlinder's List". Quite moving to say the least. I think it was more impactful because we have been to all the places highlighted in the movie. Definitely more in touch with European history now.

As promised I was able to get more scoop on Polish weddings. Guests traditionally bring flowers for the bride and groom as a gift. In earlier times, when money was tight, guests would bring flowers from their gardens. The tradition carries on! There are no bridesmaids or groomsmen either. I understand when planning the reception they allow for 1-1/2 bottles of vodka per guest!!! - OUCH!!! My friend Sławek just returned from a two-day wedding and still didn't think he could drive his car on Monday! He was originally seated at a table with some older guests who proceeded to drink him under the table. He excused himself by stating he needed a cigarette (even though he doesn't smoke). He claims he will be sticking to beer for the next few weeks! I'm not sure if I want to be invited to a Polish wedding or not!

We've been invited to a birthday party for Waltraub who I met at the International group. I now have to find something to wear. Guess I shouldn't have taken all my dress clothes back home with me! I have until the end of October so hopefully I can get over being a size 40 in time to buy something here! Right after the party some girlfriends and I are heading to Brussels and in early November the girls hope to return to Berlin with Waltraub (who is from there) to enjoy yet another get-away. Craig and I are still hopeful of a fall vacation. Yesterday I found a cheap flight to London with a side trip to Venice which is currently under deliberation. We planned on going to a spa in the mountains with some friends for New Years but the cost was 5000 zlotys (about $2300) so we are up in the air on those plans. We definitely plan on spending at least one New Year's Eve (Sylvester day) here in Poland. I imagine the vodka will be flowing wherever we end up!

I start a photography class in early October. Someday I hope to be almost as good as my hubby! I tried downloading Adobe Photoshop but was stopped by the Adobe gatekeeper who told me we've downloaded it too many times and must "deactivate" one copy. hmmmm....that means I need to try to resurrect my dead computer for one last hurrah. I'm still holding out hope Adobe will grant me a reprieve. I'm told I will have a response in one business day. The time difference means it could be Wednesday before I hear from them. It is odd doing business when you are seven hours ahead.

I told you earlier Craig was called to jury duty! Last week he received notification his jury duty was pushed back because we are living out of the country but he should expect to be called December 2009!!! Nothing like a welcome home present, huh? I've always wanted to be on jury duty and never get called. Maybe they will let me go in his place? Fat chance....

Kind of a boring read today. No funny stories or misadventures to report. I'm sure things will pick up soon - it is me living in Poland so expect the unexpected.

71 days before I land stateside....will someone pick me up at the Minneapolis airport?
