Laying in bed last night I realized we have been here a year already. Wow...original plans called for us to move back home but it is clear work still needs to be done here and I just haven't visited all the places on my list. I can't lie and say I haven't missed home (let's just say I miss it more in the summer than the winter)! Thankfully we were able to enjoy Christmas and Erica's college graduation; unfortunately, it looks like we are going to miss two family weddings (it is about time, Kirk) which does sadden me. I will also be honest and share how frightening it is to think about going back to work. Not so much because I want to continue being a domestic goddess but I'm unclear what I want to be when I grow up. I dread 50 hour work weeks but certainly enjoy the shoes I can buy with the salary. Hopefully, someone, somewhere has an opportunity for a 50-something, two-year removed from the workforce, clever, charming, hard working Cindy!!! Only time will tell...
On the paperwork front....with my VISA expiring I'm hoping our Polish residency permits get issued sooner, rather than later! I think we are approaching three months now! We've provided everything asked of us so can only practice patience - and hope no one checks my VISA!! We also learned we have to renew our passports. It seems our passports can't have an expiration date less than "x" months during our residency. Since both our passports must be renewed in 2009 (even though the dates are after our projected return date) we have to figure out how to handle that paperwork. Typically, you have to surrender your passport so they can issue a new one. Tough for us since we are required to have a passport for simple transactions such as picking up mail at the post office and opening credit card accounts at the bank. If someone wants to fly me to the States I'd be happy to comply - but not likely! It will be interesting to see whose government red tape will be easier to work through!!! More to follow....
Have a pleasant Tuesday wherever today finds you!
