The final paperwork has been signed, sealed and delivered...we will officially be in Poland September 1. It is amazing how fast things start to happen once the ink has dried! We now need to start juggling meetings with the movers, culture immersion folks and the 3M-designated move coordinators. I've started a list of all my questions and will sit down with Craig when he returns from Poland tomorrow to add things he's thought about. I must admit to some minor anxieties, but all your comments and support help me to focus on what an amazing opportunity this is for us. I wonder if they have soap operas and bon-bon's in Poland???
I've posted some pictures from my first trip to Poland. Hope you enjoy them - and remember - Craig is the photographer and I just take pictures. I'll post some of his work when he gets home this weekend.
In answer to some of your questions:
1) What is the temperature like? Does Poland have seasons? Even though Poland is actually north of Minnesota the temperatures are more temperate because of the influence of the warm waters of the Baltic Sea. Summers are drier with temperatures in the 70 - 80's. I'm told winter lows are typically above freezing. Snow is likely but not the type of snowstorms we see in Minnesota. Poland does experience the same seasons we do - so that is exciting. I love spring and fall!!
2) Will I work? My plan is not to work. Lack of fluency in Polish would cause problems. I intend to keep myself busy with card making, scrapbooking, cooking and baking. I plan to walk to the farmer's market daily for fresh fruit, vegetables and meat. No more need to spend Sunday's cooking for the week! I will be in organic food heaven!! I will also spend time researching and planning our weekend adventures.
3) How do people get around? The city has an extensive tram and bus system. My next visit I hope to master the trams. There are no highways in Wroclaw so getting to and from is unpredictable. Imagine high volume traffic on two-lane city streets - then throw in tram lines - Get the picture?? Wroclaw also has an airport. I saw very few motorcycles and scooters. I was surprised there weren't more bicycles. Always a lot of foot traffic. Maybe that is why the Polish people aren't overweight. They walk a lot!
That's it for now. Have a wonderful weekend!
